Los Angeles/Orange County Area
« on: July 10, 2013, 08:15:15 PM »
Hey Gang,

I'm usually navigating between Buena Park and Norwalk (and sometimes Pomona), so if you're a local and would like to meet for some canyon time or set up some kind of obstacle course at a local lot, I'm in!  Feel free to let us know here if you're located Between Los Angeles and Orange counties.

My father and I were considering starting a forum/group for Moto Gymkhana for our area, but then I found you guys! Would love to have and help set up an event in the near future.  If we're a small group of less than ten, then we can probably keep things low-key in some parkings lots.  But if this becomes a big fad, I'm curious what the Pomona Fair Grounds would charge for a section of their parking lot.  I've been to events such as HIN (Hot Import Night) where a section was closed off for drifting.

Nothing wrong with setting up in a parking lot that is not being used. Problems will usually show up only when folks start "hot-dogging" (popping wheelies, locking the rear to slide, stuff like that) so make it clear to everyone that stuff like that is not allowed. ( No beer drinking too).  Remind everyone the main reason they are there is to improve their skills.

The police around here will stop to watch. If there is no hot-dogging they pretty much leave you alone. When they show up talk to them and explain that this is just a skill building exercise to improve rider skills.

The police work a lot of accidents. Most have seen all the blood and gore they can stand. If they see that what you are trying to do is reduce that blood and gore, they get okay with it quickly.

This is great advice, and I completely agree.  I suppose my main concern would simply be for those with loud exhausts that would love to participate. The  potential for creating noise complaints and merely giving off the impression that we're up to no good is pretty high in my area.  So, Ill just have to hope for an understanding officer.

I haven't been to the ports in Long Beach for quite some time. I know they have HUGE areas for trailers and containers. Who can I be buddy buddy with to play around in there? Haha. I'll have to go cruise over there and check out the area again.

I'm going to visit my old high school later this evening. Turns out my old AP Physics professor is now the principal. I recall the "senior parking lot" had some great asphalt and about a 20x30yd area.

It just hit me after reading this thread. http://amgrass.com/forum/general-discussion/public-lots-what-is-legal-and-what-is-not/

I personally know the owner (and his brother) and several staff members of Bert's Mega Mall, a HUGE motorcycle shopping center. Im going to head up there today. They have a pretty decent sized lot that they block off for stunting sessions. Im not sure of the asphalt conditions.

I will continue updating this thread of various locations I am scouting.
