First/Organizational Meeting
« on: December 23, 2013, 08:59:48 AM »
Hello Everybody,

I'm really impressed with the amount of interest in forming a NE Florida chapter.  Just to bring everyone up to speed, I think I found a place to meet, and we have several places we can ride.  We have enough cones to make almost any layout work.  I think I've gathered enough organizational information to get us started.

After the last few pieces fall into place I plan on announcing a meeting sometime this week.  Look for the meeting to be sometime during the first two weeks of January.  I will make another post announcing the meeting, as well as send an email to everyone I've heard from by email.

Please don't hesitate to tell your friends about us. I know we have a good network or riders in this area and I've talked to a lot of people who are interested in doing this and I'm sure you have, too. This isn't limited to bike type or any other factor, so if you can think of anyone who might enjoy Moto Gymkhana riding, invite them along! If you forward me their email I'll make sure to include them when I announce the meeting. Even better than that, have them join the forum and they will see the post, plus they'll get to look around and see whats going on in the sport.

I look forward to meeting everyone soon, and until then, have a very Merry Christmas!

Glenn

AWESOME Glenn..
I personally am very much looking forward to this.. Let me know how I can assist..

Not sure if you saw my previous note, but if/when you may need them, I have over 170 12" traffic cones that I use on my range (Mandarin area of Jax) - Near Baptist SOUTH Hospital And I-95.. I would be more than happy to assist in providing some of these to the team if needed.. Additionally, I have a great practice (range area), Michael has been there, if it comes to you needing one.. lots of room and parking lot is in great shape.. Thanks!

Sounds great...

I have some down time till beginning of Jan and was thinking about setting up the GP8 for kicks. If anyone else wants to get together prior to the meeting and doing some drills let me know.

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a great Christmas.  We have acquired a location to meet, generously provided by Peter Hampton, the proprietor of Ton Up, Jacksonville.  The first meeting will be on Friday, 10 January 2014 at Ton Up Jax, which is located at:

810 Edgewood Avenue South
Jacksonville FL, 32205

Go to their website, www.tonupjax.com, to see a map of their location, as well at to learn more about the facility.

Our first meeting will be organizational where we will be talking about where we want the chapter to go.  Bring some ideas for what you'd like to do and what you'd like to get out of this.

I hope to see all of you who've expressed an interest in Moto Gymkhana at the meeting!

Thanks to everyone who came to our first meeting last night, and to those of you who wanted to and couldn't make it.  It looks like we have 13 people who want to be active in the chapter.

Special thanks to Peter for hosting the meeting at Ton Up, Jacksonville.  There's a lot going on at his shop, so stop by sometime and check it out.

We covered quite a bit of ground, but most importantly, we came up with a riding plan.  Every Saturday Jim Burgess sets up a location in Mandarin and rides around cones.  He's been using IPTM exercises, which are great skill developers.  He has the space and the cones there.  Our plan is for using this as an open riding time for anyone who's available.  Jim will post on the forum or the Facebook page (we're developing one) if he won't be there on a particular Saturday.  I plan on posting if I plan on being there just to keep everyone in the loop.  Jim says he gets there between 1030 and 1100 and rides for a few hours.  This is a great deal and will give all of us plenty of riding opportunities.  The address of the site is:

7159 Corklan Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32258, and here's a Google Map link:  http://goo.gl/maps/zUW7O, and the GPS coordinates are: 30.1348, -81,52586

Just one admin thing to keep in mind is that if you are getting together to ride any type of an AMGRASS/Motogymkhana event, even a practice, please remember to have all riders fill out a waiver each time.  We just need to get in the habit of doing it so we don't forget, particularly when new riders begin riding with us.

Alan "volunteered" Misty to create a Facebook page (thanks Misty!) and that should be up before too long.  We can use that in addition to this forum to communicate and for some increased visibility.

So, it looks like things are starting out well.  I look forward to riding with everyone out on the range.

Great to hear your first meeting went well and that you have got a good number of people who are willing to give Moto Gymkhana a go.

I suggest that you get everybody to have a go at the GP8 course so that they can set themselves a benchmark time. That way as they begin to improve they can look back at their first timed attempt and be amazed at how far they have come.

Just to give you a bit of a taster here is Noboru Yoshino, the world's fastest GP8'er showing what hours and hours of practice can do.

So proud of you, and so envious that you have had such an easy time getting a parking lot to practice in.  Post up some vids!

Hi Darksidemxer! Are you in the Jacksonville area? That's where most of us are located. Check out my post in this thread from January 11th. It tells when and where we ride. I have been out of town since our first meeting, but I plan on being there this coming Saturday, February 1st. Hope to see you there!
